Marcus was born in Leicestershire. As a boy he watched his father kill his mother, and ended up killing him in self-defense. After some time in a boys' home, Marcus was purchased by the Vatican to be trained as an exorcist. At the age of twelve he met a person possessed by a demon for the first time, and exorcised them successfully. This formative experience set the stage for a long and harrowing career in facing down the world's little-known supernatural evils, a job he took on with single-minded abandon.

Fast forward about 40 years. Marcus is known as one of the world's greatest living exorcists, with a perfect record of souls saved that apparently no other exorcist so far can boast—until a fateful job in Mexico City, where for the first time a demon overpowers and kills a boy in his care. This event devastates him to a point where he can no longer work. In Chicago, a year and a half later, a young upstart priest named Tomas Ortega has a vision of his failure, and begins to understand that the only way to combat demonic threats in his neighborhood is with the help of an expert.

WISH: To undo his greatest failure—the death of the young boy Gabriel in Mexico City.

FIT: Marcus is a solid dude who is committed to the welfare of others, often more than his own. He's been traveling on his own for a long time, so he's unused to being part of communities, but he's easy to get along with and rather enjoys other people once he's acclimated to them—and he'd be happy to put forward the extra effort if it means he'll have his wish granted. To stay in he's likely to rack up good deeds, but he'd also like to hook up on occasion—having been recently excommunicated, Cuddle City represents a great opportunity to reintroduce himself to the world of physical intimacy he denied himself as a priest.

CONSENT: Demons can't fully possess a person without their consent! Due to this and other, immensely more personal factors, Marcus is a big ol' fan of consent and would sooner cut off his own arm than violate it for anyone else. He's broken into people's homes, pointed guns at them, kidnapped them, and so on, but he's done it all for a higher purpose and is fully aware when his actions toe the line. He may be intrusive and a bit of a dick sometimes, but his understanding of consent and permission, especially as it pertains to bodily autonomy, is exact and principled.
